Your customers and clients are potentially struggling with the same problem.

It could be they all want to lose weight. It could be they want to have more clients. It could be they want to travel the world more.

But they are struggling with those goals for different reasons.

Let’s look at people wanting to lose weight. One person may say they are struggling to lose weight because they can’t find time to get to the gym. Someone else may say they are trying to get over their sugar cravings. Another person will say that eating healthy is too expensive.

All of these people are in the same situation, but experiencing very different struggles.

That’s where the power of surveying comes in.

Surveys can help you reach people where they are struggling.

Now before you start to think it’s just a place for people to vent their problems, I’m going to challenge your thinking. Surveys can be a positive growth force in your business.

I’m going to share with you a story about my mother and her INCREDIBLE party planning abilities.

Right now, it’s Mardi-Gras season which means taking king cakes to school and celebrating with friends. There are just tons of rituals and traditions wrapped around this season.

And my mom has the ability to throw an epic social engagement – truly unforgettable parties.

But recently, my mom started to feel stressed about whether it was going to be an epic experience. She started to doubt herself and worry about topping her last event.

She was becoming so consumed with making sure her events were absolutely perfect. I’m telling you this woman would climb to the top of magnolia trees to cut down branches and make beautiful centerpieces. That’s incredibly amazing!

Her expectations were high – so high that they trumped the NY Times and Emily Post.

Most of us have this type of garbage in our mind in regards to our own businesses.

I want to take you back 6 years to to my friend Gretchen Brown’s kitchen.

She was just starting her blog Kumquat and I got to be her guinea pig with recipes.

Now, Gretchen is a registered dietician with experience in recipe development and food styling for big corporations like Weight Watchers and Cooking Light. So to say she knew what she was doing was a total understatement.

She started her blog because she found out she was Celiac.

Did you start a business from a personal struggle you had? I’ve heard time and time again how entrepreneurs started their business out of fulfilling their own need.

And boy this was a need that more than just Gretchen had.

I also suffer from Celiac so I personally benefitted from this amazing blog.

Before this blog and many others, being told you had to be gluten-free was a death sentence. It was being told you were going to be eating cardboard carbs the rest of your life.

So the fact that Gretchen was able to create such tasty treats was mind-blowing to me!
